Duceppe Pushes for G8 Report Release Ahead of Election

The CBC is reporting that Gilles Duceppe is pushing Stephen Harper to do what he can to have the G8 Report released by Auditor General Sheila Fraser ahead of the May 2 election. The AG is prevented from releasing the report because Parliament is not in session, but with all five political party leaders asking for the Report to be released, Duceppe figures Harper can do something about this.

What epitomizes the Conservative’s tunnel vision about the G8 Report was captured nicely in the CBC piece: “The Conservatives have said that all money has been accounted for and later drafts of the report do not include the language on Parliament being misinformed.”

The Conservatives still think the issue a large number of Canadians have with the way their government handled G8/G20 spending is whether money was siphoned inappropriately under the table to politically motivated projects. Canadians do not doubt that the money was properly allocated from a budgetary perspective – but rather are angry that Harper gave $50M to pork-barrel projects in Tony Clement’s riding for ‘legacy projects’ and gave Toronto nothing!

Someone needs to tell Stephen Harper it’s not always about the budget. But he’s an economy robot, so it’s his nuts and bolts and oil.
